Diet
Omnivorous. Small aquatic invertebrates, live or frozen; also flake foods and vegetable matter.
Temperament
Tiger barbs are know to nip the fins of other fish. Keep them in schools of eight or more for them to create a "pecking order." The more that you keep in a school the less likely they will pick on other fish. Do not keep with any other fish that have long flowing fins.
Breeding
They lay their eggs in plant thickets, plants such as java moss work well. The eggs will hatch within 24 hours of being laid, fry are free swimming within 3 days. Feed the fry newly hatched brine shrimp for the first few weeks. There are usually 150-250 eggs each spawning. Be sure to remove the parents after they spawn.
